If your dishwasher is not dispensing soap, there are some things that you can do to try to fix the problem. Here are two of the most common issues and straightforward fixes.
Buildup of Detergent
Rather ironically, the reason your dishwasher doesn’t dispense soap could be that there is too much detergent. You will know if this is your issue from inspecting the soap dispenser. Is it clogged with old suds and caked in dried-up powder?
If so, clean it! Be sure you clean inside the dispenser as well as around the latch and groove, and the hinges. You can do this using a cloth and hot water.
Broken Spring
You will notice a tiny spring inside your dishwasher detergent dispenser. This spring is triggered during the washing cycle and causes the dispenser door to pop open. A broken spring can prevent this from happening.
If the spring is clean with no food, suds, or obvious buildup preventing it from working, it likely needs replacing. You can replace the spring yourself if you have a screwdriver and some needle-nose pliers.
